Is OnlineDivorce.com legit?

OnlineDivorce.com is indeed a legit company — though it has struggled with online reviews and ratings. There are many other reputable online divorce filing companies with very high customer, Better Business Bureau and TrustPilot reviews. Read on for more …

How does OnlineDivorce.com work?

When you file for divorce the traditional way, both you and your partner will likely need an attorney.

Working with legal counsel will not only extend the length of time it takes to make your divorce final, but you’ll also incur costly legal fees (usually $2,000 or more) and endure a lot more stress along the way.

With an online divorce from OnlineDivorce.com, the process is much simpler. Not only is it fully-guided and affordable, but you get access to top-notch technology along the way.

The entire process is completed at your own pace, and you can find all the divorce documents you need online.

You’ll also get access to award-winning customer support, free revisions and a free name change with no hidden fees, state-specific filing instructions, and personalized help if required.

With OnlineDivorce.com, you get the best of both worlds — a private, stress-free divorce with online help and assistance if you need it.

Keep in mind, however, that using an online divorce processor like OnlineDivorce.com is only possible if you have an uncontested divorce — as in, both you and your partner have agreed on how to split up assets, split up debts, and on how the kids will be raise. If your divorce is contested or you cannot agree on the details of your divorce, you will need to get lawyers involved and endure a more lengthy, expensive divorce process.

OnlineDivorce.com pros

Online, DIY services are a great, affordable, easy, and low-conflict option to end a marriage via divorce or annulment.

OnlineDivorce.com and similar programs are only for those with an uncontested divorce. What this means is, both you and your spouse have agreed on all terms when it comes to splitting up property and debts and how your children will be raised (if you have any).

There are many, many online divorce services. OnlineDivorce.com has been plauged with many online complaints and an F rating on Better Business Bureau, which it has since raised to a C-.

More on successful co-parenting, and what you need to know before you divorce.

Some of the biggest reasons to use this service and file for divorce online include:

  • You won’t have to deal with a lawyer. If you don’t want to deal with a lawyer for any reason, OnlineDivorce.com will let you file for divorce without any help. This can be a huge benefit if you prefer to keep the details of your divorce as private as possible or you’ve had bad experiences with attorneys in the past. However, some online divorce services like RocketLawyer offer the services of a family attorney to answer questions and review your forms.
  • It's cheap. According to OnlineDivorce.com, the average divorce with a lawyer involved costs $2,000 or more. OnlineDivoce.com costs $139 plus filing fees, making it one of the lowest-cost services on the market.
  • You can expedite the divorce process. Hiring an attorney to help you file for divorce will inevitably lead to higher costs and a lengthier divorce timeline. By filing for divorce the simple way, you can reduce the amount of time it takes and make the process a lot less stressful.

OnlineDivorce.com cons

OnlineDivorce.com has struggled with many complaints and low ratings with the Better Business Bureau. Their website lists media mentions in large news organizations, but most are 20 years old.

OnlineDivorce.com does not offer the services of an attorney.

You have to file your divorce papers yourself — or hire an attorney to do so for you.

In short, there are many reputable online divorce services on the market. No need to go with the first one on Google.

The onlinedivorce.com service is completely terrible…TERRIBLE people work there. The forms don’t work at all…you could do this yourself with the court forms just as easily.

They say you can get a refund if you’re not happy with the service. I sent a refund request, got no reply. Called and was on hold for a million years. Finally was called back by a guy named Eric who said he would not give me any kind of refund and got aggressive with me.

    Avoid at all costs.

Do not trust this company. Complete fraud and scam! I paid $139 for the divorce paper and another $15 for a “Quit Claim Deed”. They sent a mostly blank 1 page Quit Claim Deed, which was complete inaccurate and was rejected by the County Recorder. The form itself was rejected. I wasted $20 to have that inaccurate form notarized. I went to a Title Company to get an accurate form, paid another $20 for a notary and had my Deed properly recorded the 2nd time. I tried 5 separate times to contact OnlineDivorce Reps by phone, e-mail, etc. and never received a response. Finally, they answered my call after a week of trying online to reject my request of a $15 for the inaccurate Quit Claim Deed because “I already downloaded their (inaccurate 1 page) form”. Also, access to your online divorce documents, which I paid $139, are limited to 30 days and so far, they were inaccessible multiple times on their website within these 30 days, apparently due to “technical difficulties” they were experiencing. AVOID this scam and choose a reliable company.
