Nearly two years after the start of the pandemic, one in seven people in the U.S. are living in poverty. That means millions of people across the U.S. may not be able to afford essential clothing items like a winter coat.

The right clothes can help you land a job, boost your confidence, and affect your mental performance, according to research by psychological scientists from California State University, Northridge, and Columbia University.

16 places to get free clothes

A yard sale. Here's how and where to get free clothes in 2024.

Whether you need new clothes for your children, a suit for a job interview, or you just want to update your wardrobe, there are a lot of ways to get free clothes when youโ€™re short on cash or on a strict budget.

Check out this list of places to get free clothes:

1. Churches

Local churches often have clothing closets or clothing ministries, which offer free clothing to anyone in need (and you usually donโ€™t have to show proof of income). You can get new, nearly new, or gently used clothes, depending on the types of donations the church accepts.

Churches may operate clothing drives on certain days of the week and at specific times, so youโ€™ll need to contact churches in your area to find out when to stop by.

Some larger nonprofit organizations may also partner with local churches to provide free clothing. Search โ€œfree clothing at churches near meโ€ to find churches that provide free clothing in your community.

2. Clothing swap

Organize a clothing swap with neighbors, friends, family members, or co-workers. Make sure everyone invited has at least one other person who wears the same size so everyone has clothing to browse.

You can run the clothing swap at your home or find a free place to set up like a community room at your local public library.

You can also do a virtual clothing swap using tools like Facebook Groups. Go to Facebook Groups and use the search feature to find local clothing swap or single mom groups. You can search โ€œclothing swapโ€ and then add your city. For example, โ€œclothing swap Austinโ€ or โ€œfree clothing Newark.โ€

3. Consignment shops

Have you ever thought about selling your clothes on consignment? Depending on where you go, you can get some cash upfront for selling clothes you no longer wear that are still in good shape.

To get top dollar, make sure the clothing is:

  • In good condition and high quality
  • From an in-demand brand
  • In line with style trends or a timeless classic

You can use the extra cash from your consignment sales to purchase new or gently used clothing. Keep in mind, some consignment shops only pay after your items sell, so if you need money right away, you might want to consider another alternative.

Search โ€œconsignment shops near meโ€ or search Consignment Shopper online, a nationwide database of consignment shops.

4. Craigslist

Craigslist can be a gold mine for connecting with people who want to give away free or discounted clothes. It is a nationwide online classified marketplace connecting you to people in your community looking to part with apparel and other unwanted items.

To find free clothing, look for the โ€œFor Saleโ€ section. Then, click the โ€œfreeโ€ link to see whatโ€™s available nearby. You might have to sort through the items to find clothing or type โ€œclothesโ€ in the search field.

Just remember to take safety precautions when using Craigslist. Always use the Craigslist proxy email address for initial contact to avoid future spam. Use an app like Google Voice to get a phone number that will ring to your phone and protect your real phone number. Meet in a public place and take a friend with you.

5. Credit card rewards

Do you have a credit card that rewards you with points you can use like cash to buy clothing (or anything else you need)? If not, search for and apply for a 0% interest cash back card.

On Amazon, you can shop for yourself and your children on Amazon Essentials. Itโ€™s a brand of Amazon clothing that offers affordably priced wardrobe basics โ€” everything from underwear to coats for all sizes, children and adults.

6. Facebook Marketplace

Donโ€™t overlook Facebook as a place to get free clothing. Facebook Marketplace is a great option for finding free clothing.

Navigate to โ€œFree Stuffโ€ on Facebook Marketplace and browse whatโ€™s available nearby. Or, you can use the search bar and type in a phrase like โ€œfree clothesโ€ to narrow your results.

You can send messages via Facebook Messenger to ask questions about the free clothing and communicate about how you will pick up or receive the items.

7. Freecycle.org

The Freecycle Network is a free membership site that connects you with local people who are giving away free stuff. With over 9 million members represented in 5,300+ towns and cities, it is an excellent resource for free clothing.

Not only can you get free clothes, coats, and shoes, but just about anything else you can think of. Create a free membership, browse Freecycle groups in your area and join the groups that interest you. Freecycle is a nonprofit focused on reuse and keeping as many items out of landfills as possible.

8. Garage or tag sales

Saturday mornings are usually the best time to seek out garage sales or yard sales. Clothing might not be free, but you can usually get it at very low prices. You can use apps like NextDoor or search for community groups in Facebook Groups to find dates and times of nearby garage sales.

Tag sales are a step up from garage sales, so prices are usually higher, but so are the quality of goods. They are usually handled by professionals who price, list and sell the goods of an estate on an online auction site or at a personโ€™s home.

You can search EstateSales.net, a nationwide search tool that shows local tag sales, in addition to estate sales and auctions.

9. Hand-me-downs

If you need clothes for your children, ask your network of moms if they are willing to part with clothes their child has outgrown. You can also use Facebook as a resource, since some people use the social media platform to give away items.

You could post, โ€œIs anyone looking to clear out some clothes your kids never wear?โ€ on your Facebook profile. You might be surprised by how many helpful responses you get.

10. Instagram

This idea does take some initial effort to amass enough followers to become an influencer, but if you enjoy getting dressed up and snapping pics, it could turn into a lucrative opportunity. Search โ€œhow to become a fashion influencer on Instagramโ€ for ideas on how to get started.

11. Referral programs

When you set up a free account with either (or both) and use the online marketplace to buy or sell clothing, youโ€™ll get a referral link you can share with family, friends, or even your social media network.

12. Salvation Army

While the Salvation Army doesn't offer free clothes, you can get items that are steeply discounted (especially if you shop on discount days). Each store has specials they run on certain days of the week. In some cases, you can get 50% off. To find out what they offer, contact your nearest Salvation Army store directly.

Some popular thrift stores include Goodwill, Platoโ€™s Closet, and Salvation Army. You can also get great deals on clothing from online consignment shops like Poshmark, Mercari, and ThredUp

Like a lot of new moms, I struggled with low milk supply after giving birth to my son, who spent his first two weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit. By the time we got home, my son had no interest in breastfeeding, and my pumping efforts were futile.

At the time, I was 22, less than a year out of college, and on unpaid maternity leave from my entry-level newspaper job. After burning through free formula samples from the hospital, my doctor recommended I apply for the WIC program, which provides free baby formula and nutritional foods to low-income mothers and their babies.

Receiving free formula through WIC took away some of the stress and uncertainty of being a young mom and allowed me to save money to move out of my parentsโ€™ home.

According to the U.S. Surgeon General, baby formula costs an average of $1,200 to $1,500 for a baby's first year. The last thing any new mom (or any mom, for that matter!) should have to worry about is how sheโ€™ll afford to feed her baby.

Where can I get free formula for my baby?

Here are some ways to get free formula and formula samples for low-income moms and families:

1. Free formula from the government

2. Free baby formula from manufacturers: Contact Enfamil, Similac and Gerber โ€” as well as Amazon

3. Free formula samples from hospitals and doctors' offices

1. Free formula from the government

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children โ€” better known as WIC โ€” is a nutritional assistance program administered by the U.S. Food and Nutrition Service. Nearly 9 million pregnant women, mothers, and caregivers of infants and young children receive free baby formula and nutritional food items through WIC each month.

Though the program is federally funded, each state has its own income requirements and application process. For reference, the maximum annual income for a two-person household in Pennsylvania (where I received benefits) for 2023-24 is $36,482.

How do I get emergency baby formula?

If you need free baby formula in a pinch, call your childโ€™s doctor or local hospital to see if they can give you free formula samples until you are able to apply for free formula through WIC.

Even if you are not currently receiving WIC benefits, you can call your local WIC branch to find out about resources nearby to receive free formula until you can apply.

How do you get free formula from WIC?

WIC provides checks or vouchers for free formula and healthy food items you can use at designated grocery stores. At checkout, youโ€™ll present your checks to the cashier, who will scan them as payment for your formula.

If you want to receive free formula from WIC, visit the WIC website to find your stateโ€™s program and learn how to apply.

The application process might look a little different depending on where you live, but youโ€™ll likely have to go to your nearest WIC location and present proof of income before you start receiving WIC checks.

Does EBT cover formula?

If you receive SNAP benefits (formerly food stamps), you can use your EBT card to purchase baby formula at participating retailers. You can also purchase items like baby food and cereal as your child grows.

However, if you qualify for SNAP benefits, you're automatically eligible for WIC. You can enroll in both programs simultaneously and save your EBT funds to purchase food items for yourself and the rest of your family.

To see if you qualify for SNAP benefits, check your stateโ€™s eligibility and application requirements.

So how do you get free formula through WIC?

WIC formula participants receive checks or vouchers each month to purchase baby formula and healthy foods for mom and baby. The number and types of checks you receive will depend on whether you are breastfeeding or exclusively formula feeding. Breastfeeding moms receive more checks for regular food items to ensure a healthy milk supply.

WIC typically pays for standard formulas from companies like Similac and Enfamil, but you can request checks for specialized formulas with a doctorsโ€™ note (like I did for my son with a dairy sensitivity).

As your child grows and transitions to solid foods, you will receive checks to buy items like jarred baby food and infant cereal.

WIC also funds nutritious foods for mom like meats, whole wheat bread, brown rice, soft corn and whole wheat tortillas, juice, eggs, milk, cheese, peanut butter, dried beans or peas, fruits and vegetables, soy beverages, tofu, and canned fish.

There are about 46,000 stores across the United States. authorized to accept WIC checks. Your local WIC branch will likely give you a list of nearby stores where you can shop, or you can search for locations through your stateโ€™s website.

2. Free baby formula from manufacturers: Contact Enfamil, Similac and Gerber โ€” as well as Amazon

Most formula companies are more than willing to send you free formula samples because they want you to buy their products in the future. You can sign up for free formula samples on the formula manufacturersโ€™ websites.

Amazon Family also offers Prime members discounts on baby formula and other baby items like diapers. You can get a free welcome box with sample products when you create a baby registry, add at least 60% of the items on Amazonโ€™s checklist, and have at least $10 of purchases made from that list (by you or someone else). Prime memberships are $119 annually or $12.99 a month.

Enfamil free samples

Enfamil offers a number of programs that include free formula

  • The Enfamil Wonder Box is a one-time gift of free formula varieties and coupons
  • The Enfamil Family Beginnings is an ongoing program that includes free formula samples, formula coupons, cash-back earnings and access to a 24/7 nurse advice for free.
  • The Enfamil app generates rewards points toward future purchases when you read articles, participate in polls and refer friends.

Free Similac samples

You can sign up for the MySimilac Rewards program to receive free formula samples, formula savings, and products from Similacโ€™s partner brands: 360 Total Care, Pure Bliss, Alimentum and Advance.

Free Gerber Good Start samples

MyGerber Baby program similarly offers free formula, coupons and rewards points: $10 off every fifth qualifying purchase and a free gift with every $150 spent.

3. Free formula samples from hospitals and doctors' offices

Formula companies send free formula samples to doctorโ€™s offices and maternity hospitals hoping theyโ€™ll pass them on to you.

At your childโ€™s next office visit, ask if they have any free samples of formula on hand. Even if they donโ€™t, your childโ€™s doctor may be able to connect you with local organizations that provide free baby formula to qualifying families.

Where to find low-income housing help for single moms

1. HUD housing for low-income single moms

HUD works with landlords to offer affordable rent to no-income and low-income families, including single moms, the disabled and senior citizens.

If you have no job income or income from sources such as Social Security, disability benefits, or welfare assistance payments via TANF, you can apply for the Section 8 housing subsidy to cover all or part of rent in a HUD housing facility or other preferred housing that accepts the HUD Choice Voucher program (Section 8).

Learn how to qualify for HUD housing, and search for a HUD apartment on the programโ€™s website.

HUD also has various state-sponsored housing programs throughout the country. Learn about these state housing programs for low-income moms.

HUD public housing for low-income families is another option. Contact your stateโ€™s Public Housing Agency (PHA) directly to learn more.

2. Housing Choice Voucher program, also known as Section 8 vouchers

HUD Section 8 vouchers are a type of housing subsidy. They are coupons given directly to no-income and low-income renters who use them to pay part or all of their rent to participating landlords.

Housing options are not limited to subsidized housing, and can include:

  • Apartments
  • Single family homes
  • Condos
  • Multi-family housing
  • Mobile homes

Again, you just need to find an owner or landlord who agrees to allow you to rent under the program and approved by your local PHA. Start with finding your local PHA, which can tell you how to apply for a housing voucher and provide your local housing list.

3. Rent-to-own housing assistance

Some PHAs also offer rent-to-own housing assistance vouchers for qualified Section 8 tenants through the Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Program.

For example, the Chicago Housing Authority offers the Choose to Own Homeownership Program (CTO). The CTO makes it possible for families to use their housing subsidy to buy a home. The voucher can pay a portion of the mortgage for up to 15 years (30 years if the head of household is over 62 years old and/or disabled).

The CTO helps first-time homebuyers with:

  • An annual income that is between 50-80% of the area median income
  • A minimum 640 credit score and a good credit history
  • Good standing with the housing authority or current landlord
  • Proof of $3,000+ in a bank account with the ability to keep saving ($2,000+ if the applicant is 62 or older and/or disabled)
  • $1,000 set aside in a personal savings account for emergency home repairs

Youโ€™ll want to check with your local PHA to see if this is an option for you, because this option is not available through every PHA.

4. USDA Multi-Family Housing Rentals

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) helps rural families with a variety of programs for multi-family rental housing. These USDA programs serve the elderly, low-income families, and those with disabilities.

Eligibility is based on income and age if applying for housing opportunities for elderly citizens. There are three income classifications based on the level of need and adjusted for household size:

  • Very low income: 50% of median income for the area
  • Low income: 80% of median income for the area
  • Moderate income: 80% of median income for the area, plus $5,500

If eligible to receive rental assistance, youโ€™ll pay up to 30% of your adjusted income for your rental.

In eligible rural areas, the USDA offers:

  • Rental loans with affordable financing options
  • Loans and grants for housing development and rehabilitation
  • Rental payment subsidies
  • Hardship vouchers
  • Grants to preserve affordable housing

To learn more, visit the USDA Multifamily Housing Programs website to get contact information for your regional representative.

5. Mercy Housing

Mercy Housing has helped more than 152,000 low-income households โ€” including single moms and their children โ€” find and keep safe, affordable rental housing. The nonprofit also helps seniors, special needs individuals, homeless people, and veterans.

Mercy Housing provides permanent housing in five regions across the United States:

  • Mercy Housing California
  • Mercy Housing Lakefront (Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana)
  • Mercy Housing Mountain Plains (Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Utah)
  • Mercy Housing Northwest (Washington, Idaho)
  • Mercy Housing Southeast (Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee)

Each Mercy Housing community determines its own eligibility criteria.

To apply, find and contact the Mercy Housing community you wish to live in. You can also call 866-338-0557 to ask questions.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is a valuable resource for affordable housing and subsidies. If you search โ€œHUD subsidized housing near meโ€ you can quickly view nearby apartments and public housing communities. This phrase can also yield results for local public housing authorities/agencies (PHA) that can further aid you in your search.

Additionally, HUD offers a resource locator tool. With this tool you can find:

  • Nearby affordable housing
  • Your local HUD office
  • Your local PHA
  • Resources for the homeless
  • Housing help for the elderly
  • Housing assistance for those with specials needs

Use the HUD Resource Locator to find help near you.

Emergency housing for single mothers

1. Emergency Solutions Grants

If you suddenly become homeless or are in a housing crisis, the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program provides resources to help you find emergency housing, prevent homelessness, or assist with rapid relocation to a safe place.

Federal ESG funds are distributed to grantees including state and local governments, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, public house authorities, and Tribal entities.

Grantees assist people in their jurisdiction with current or back rent, security deposits, utility payments, and provide tenant advocacy for legal issues with landlords.

If you need fast help finding a home or staying in your current home, contact your local HUD field office to get in touch with your local ESG grantee.

2. Transitional housing โ€œnear meโ€

Leaving a domestic violence situation, losing a job, overcoming addiction, financing an extended hospital stay, and many other unexpected life challenges can impact your living situation. Transitional housing may be an option for you.

If you are facing homelessness, transitional housing might be a good solution, and there are likely temporary or extended-stay homes right in your community. You can do a Google search for โ€œtransitional housing near meโ€ to get contact information for nearby homes and temporary housing programs.

You can also search for local nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and government entities such as the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services for transitional housing help. Under HHS, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a resource for finding transitional homes with stays up to 24 months.

Many of these transitional homes are free if you have no income or offer a sliding scale rent based on your income. Some offer counseling and other resources to help you get back on your feet.

3. Camillus House

If you are a renter living in Miami-Dade County, Fla., and are at risk for homelessness, you may be eligible for help from the Homeless Prevention Rental Assistance Program (HP-RAP). Your income must fall within the limits for household size to qualify and your landlord must agree to participate in the program. Call 1-877-994-4357 for help.

4. Continuum of Care Program

The Continuum of Care (CoC) program is a consolidation of multiple former HUD programs to protect citizens against homelessness, including:

  • Supportive Housing Program
  • Shelter Plus Care Program (S+C)
  • Section 8 Moderate Rehabilitation SRO Program

CoC awards grants to nonprofit organizations, plus state and local government and public housing agencies. If you are homeless and have no income or low income, you can get help from a CoC grant recipient in your area to move into transitional or permanent housing or to find other means of support.

To find CoC participants in your area, check out the HUD Exchange.

Rental assistance programs

Whether you lose a job, have an unexpected illness, or suffer a financial setback, there is rental assistance for single moms available. While some resources are immediate, others take time so it is important to apply as soon as possible.

In fact, in some states, submitting a rental assistance application is enough to ban an eviction. This could give you time to find more rental assistance programs or secure new living arrangements.

Here are some places that help with paying rent:

1. Emergency Rental Assistance Program

To provide rental help to households impacted by the  COVID-19 pandemic, state, local, and tribal programs are funded by the federal Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program.

You can also check with your city, county, or municipality for ERA help by calling 211 in the United States.

Funds cover rent, utilities, and other home energy costs. You may also be able to get money for relocation expenses.

You may be eligible if:

  • At least one person in your home lost income, qualifies for unemployment, owes large expenses, or experienced financial hardships (priority goes to those unemployed for 90 days or more)
  • Your household income is below the area median income (AMI); percentages vary by area but applicants with 50% or less income than the AMI have top priority
  • You or a household member is at risk of becoming homeless

Start now, as it can take at least three to five weeks to process your application. Find rental assistance in your area.

2. Veterans Affairs assistance with rent

The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) offers assistance with rent through a joint program with HUD. The HUD-VA Supportive Housing program (HUD-VASH) provides rent assistance vouchers to homeless veterans living in privately-owned housing.

Even if you have no income, you are eligible for help. PHAs cannot deny access to families with zero income.

If you are a veteran in need of rent assistance from HUD-VASH or facing an eviction or loss of housing, contact the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans for immediate assistance. Phone lines are open 24/7.

3. Salvation Army rent assistance

The Salvation Army uses its resources to offer short-term emergency funds for rent assistance. To date, the organization has provided over $112 million in rent and mortgage assistance in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Salvation Army operates neighborhood locations in all states, as well as in Puerto Rico. Each location has specific services.

To find out if emergency financial assistance is offered in your area, use your zip code to find your local center.

4. Catholic Charities rental assistance

Catholic Charities rental assistance comes in the form of affordable housing options. They have over 35,000 affordable housing units and are working to add more.

To see what resources and properties are available in your area, search by your city, state or zip code.

5. Veterans Administration Shallow Subsidy program

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), under the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program (SSVF), provides grants to hundreds of nonprofits to offer rental assistance to low-income and extremely low-income veteran households.

Low income is defined as below 50% of area median income (AMI). Extremely low income is below 30% AMI.

Known as the Shallow Subsidy, this program covers up to 50% of rent for two years, even if your income increases.

These benefits are paid directly to participating landlords known as SSVF grantees. So, if your rent is $1200 per month and you get the 50% benefit, $600 goes directly to your landlord and you pay the remaining $600 each month.

This program is available in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam.

There is a recertification process every two years to determine continued eligibility. You must be a veteran enrolled in SSVF Rapid Rehousing or VA Homeless Prevention to be considered for the program.

Reach out to your local VA or call 877-4AID-VET to learn more.

Whether youโ€™ve inherited a Rolex from a family member, received one as a gift, or bought one for yourself years ago and simply no longer want it, selling it for some cold hard cash is much better than letting it collect dust in the back of your drawer or jewelry box.

The good news is that Rolex hold their value better than most timepieces โ€” so you likely have a good investment you can cash in. This watch industry study found that Rolex followed just Patek Philippe when it comes to value retention.

But how can you tell if your Rolex is real or fake? How much is your watch worth? And how should you go about selling your watch so that you know you wonโ€™t be ripped off or taken advantage of?

Below we answer these and other common questions that people have about selling Rolexes:

Sell your Rolex watch? What you should know first

Before you sell your Rolex, be sure to review the FAQs below so that you will be able to make a more informed decision as you search for a buyer.

How to tell if a Rolex is real or fake

By far, Rolexes are the most popular luxury watch, and they also tend to hold their value very well. While the company makes about 700,000 new Rolex watches every year, there are also many phony ones. Here is how you can tell whether your Rolex is real, vs fake:

  • A real Rolex will be silent, and does not make a โ€˜tickingโ€™ sound.
  • The second hand on a real Rolex will move smoothly, while a fake will stutter.
  • A real Rolex is made of real metals, and weighs significantly more than a phony.
  • Fake Rolexes have winders on their sides that are basic, while the real deal has finely and artistically engraved winders.
  • An authentic Rolex has a special โ€œcyclops lensโ€ over the date, which magnifies that number. Fake Rolexes do not have this feature, typically.

How to find your Rolex reference number and serial number

In order to ensure youโ€™re getting the best possible deal when selling your Rolex, youโ€™ll need as much information about the watch as possible.

Two important pieces of information that can help you appraise your watch are the reference number and the serial number, both of which are engraved directly on the watch case. These numbers tell you, and any potential buyers, a lot of information about your watch, including the model, bezel style, and metal that the watch is made out of.

The reference number is engraved on the 12 oโ€™clock side of the case, between the lugs that connect the case to the bracelet. The serial number is likewise engraved on the 6 oโ€™clock side of the case.

To find these numbers, you or a jeweler will need to remove the bracelet. To do this, all you need to do is insert a pin into the tiny hole on each side of the bracelet, and it should come loose.

How much is my Rolex worth?

If you have a Rolex to sell, you may find you made an excellent investment, as these watches hold their value more than other timepieces, studies find.

To find the resale value of your Rolex or another timepiece you want to sell, the best way is to get an authentication by a certified watch expert. This professional can remove the back of your Rolex, inspect the serial numbers to determine the age and model, and examine the movements to establish the watchโ€™s repair history. This professional will also help you understand how much your Rolex is worth with and without papers โ€” whether you have a Rolex watch for men, or a Rolex watch for women.

How do I find out what my Rolex watch is worth?

The value of your Rolex will depend on a number of different factors, including:

  • Model and rarity of your watch
  • Age of your watch
  • Condition of your watch
  • Whether you had your watchโ€™s bracelet shortened, and whether or not you have the removed links
  • Metal (gold, platinum, stainless steel) your watch is made out of
  • Whether or not your watch is adorned with any gems like diamonds
  • Whether or not you have all of your Rolexโ€™s papers and original box

With all of this in mind, it can be a challenge for the average person to determine the value of their watch. Sure, you can look at the prices that other similar Rolexes have sold for. And yes, some websites offer calculators that will give you an estimate on your watch based on the information you provide. But the only way to really determine the value of your Rolex is to have it appraised by a trusted jeweler or watch buyer.

For example, Worthy.com is an online platform that helps users list and sell high-end, luxury jewelry (like Rolexes) directly to professional jewelry buyers. Before they accept any piece for listing, they appraise the piece for authenticity and to help you determine the value of the item.

Where to find a Rolex buyer to sell your watch

Where can I sell a Rolex watch online?

If you want to sell your Rolex online, the good news is that you should be able to find a number of online watch buyers simply by searching for โ€œsell Rolex onlineโ€ in Google. That being said, youโ€™ll most likely get the most money for your watch by selling your watch to (or through) an online buyer that specializes in luxury jewelry, such as Worthy.com.

Through Worthy, you can have your Rolex watch appraised and then listed for sale. Once listed, Worthyโ€™s clientele of professional jewelry buyers can bid on your watch in order to buy it. The fact that Worthy is an auction platform increases the chances that youโ€™ll get top dollar for your Rolex, especially compared to other buyers like online pawn shops or metal buyers.

Where can I sell my Rolex near me?

Chances are, your local jeweler is not a watch expert, and not the best person to help price your vintage or antique Rolexโ€™s value โ€” much less sell for the highest price. Luxury watches, including Rolexes, are highly specialized items that can only be accurately evaluated by experts like those at Worthy.com, as well as those found at auction houses.

How to sell to a Rolex with papers

If you have the original authentication papers and watch box that came with your watch, it can not only make it easier for you to sell your watch, but might even help you fetch a higher price. By some estimates, a Rolex with all of its papers and box can sell for as much as 10% or 20% more than a watch without its papers.

Recently sold Rolexes

Here are some examples of recent Rolex watch sales at Worthy:

Rolex 118238 Day Date K264407 sold at auction $10,175.

Rolex 1680 Submariner 5405484 sold at auction for $5,087.

How to sell a Rolex without papers

If you have a Rolex but donโ€™t have the papers or original box, that doesnโ€™t mean that you still canโ€™t sell your watch. But it does increase the importance of having your watch appraised and authenticated. Without authentication, youโ€™re unlikely to find a buyer who is willing to take the risk of buying a fake Rolex.

Finding your watchโ€™s reference number and serial number (on the watch case, beneath the bracelet) will also help you appraise your watch and list it for sale.

Safety tips when using public wifi

If you are not at home and plan to connect to public free wifi, look into a tool like NordVPN, a great resource to use if you plan to access public wifi networks. A VPN adds a layer of protection between your device and the public wifi, protecting you from hackers. You can get a monthly plan for $11.95 or an annual plan for $143.40.

Other than using a VPN, here are some safety tips when using public wifi:

  • Only visit secure websites: Websites that start with https are encrypted, making them safer to access than http (non-encrypted) while using public wifi
  • Donโ€™t access personal accounts: Donโ€™t access bank accounts, use online tax software, or access any other account that requires a username and password or other sensitive data, such as your social security number
  • Be careful what you download: Donโ€™t click on unfamiliar links or download files from sources you donโ€™t trust
  • Verify the wifi network: Before connecting, ask the establishment the name of their network, as some hackers create networks that sound similar
  • Don't use automatic wifi connections: Turn off automatic connections to avoid connecting to a hackerโ€™s network by mistake
  • Turn off file sharing: When you are home on a secure network file sharing is fine, but disable it on public networks to avoid sharing files with strangers by accident
  • Ensure your anti-virus/anti-malware software is on: The software will protect your devices from attacks to steal your personal information
